Toulouse’s Cartoon Forum puts French animation projects in the spotlight

Toulouse is preparing to host Cartoon Forum from 14 to 17 September, bringing animation projects before potential broadcasters, investors and co-production partners. The event is a professional pitching forum for television animation, not a public release schedule: selection does not mean a series has secured financing or a place on screen.

In its 10 September programme overview, France’s CNC lists 66 selected projects from 111 submissions, including 32 French projects. The selection spans 15 countries. For French animation, that makes the gathering an opportunity to test proposed stories and production plans in an international market before finished programmes reach viewers.

Projects looking for partners, not finished releases

The CNC describes half-hour presentations aimed at finding funding, broadcasters or collaborators. It also counts 26 co-productions in the selection. Those figures explain the event’s emphasis on relationships across borders, but they cannot tell us which projects will leave Toulouse with new agreements.

Animation here is not confined to young children. The CNC identifies 17 projects for teenagers or adults, about a quarter of the selection. The programme therefore offers a broader picture of the medium than a children’s television label would suggest; WHIF has not watched or reviewed these unfinished works.

Canadian links and sustainable production

A Quebec and Canada spotlight adds another route for collaboration. The organiser presents six projects in that strand and describes a dedicated session connecting European and Canadian producers. Its stated aim is to encourage future partnerships, not to announce that co-production contracts have already been signed.

Sustainability also has a place in the programme through a new Ecoprod–Cartoon Tribute. The CNC names Gao Shan Pictures, Cartoon Saloon and La Cabane among the nominees. A nomination is not an award result, and the event had not begun when this preview was published on 13 September.

For viewers, the interesting story is the development pipeline behind future animation. For professionals, the official programme remains the place to check participation arrangements.
